The Hunter Valley is a wine region about 2 hours north of Sydney, and the quaintest country wine town that you just can’t miss. Today I’m sharing a winery guide with you all for your next trip (...back to my blog roots with a wine tasting guide! I miss the days of writing about Napa Valley & Sonoma County - my favorite wine countries, which feel like home!) Whether it’s for a weekend trip or even a day trip, The Hunter is the perfect little quiet escape from the Sydney hustle! This guide to Hunter Valley shares all my aussie wine country recommendations, so read on for the scoop.
You’re not going to find Uber’s or a plethora of taxis to hail in the Hunter so it’s best to organize a van or hire bikes if you’re planning to visit enough spots in the day to get silly. For a wine tour driver, check out this option which will provide you with a cheauffer, organize a van for a big group of friends, or check out iHop which is a hop-on-hop-off option. For a super fun biking route, check out Grapemobile. It’s located on Palmer’s Lane where they have a set winery route that’s not hilly or hard to get to by bike! We loved the bikes - they made for a really fun day!
Hunter Valley is so much more quaint and charming that wine regions I’m used to in the Bay Area - much less commercialized and seemed like more of mom & pop, family-run wineries, which makes the whole trip feel a little more personalized and homey! Unlike many American wine regions, tasting is super casual (and usually free) and the bottles are really affordable (many bottles under $25 AUD!
