murder mystery dinner

For those of you who know me well, you know I'm absolutely obsessed with the murder mystery genre. I'm going to be putting together a roundup of my favorite murder mystery books, podcasts, movies, TV shows, etc. sometime in the new year, so stay tuned. Anyways - I'm really excited that I had the opportunity to team up with The Murder Mystery Co. and attend one of their murder mystery dinners in the Bay Area. Murder mystery parties are always fun, but pairing it with a yummy Italian dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory (can you say NOSTALGIA?! Haven't been there since I was a kid!) is the perfect combination for a murder mystery lovin' foodie like myself.

The Murder Mystery Co. puts on live, interactive murder mystery dinner shows all over the US, but in the Bay Area they do them in Redwood City and San Jose. We went to the one in Redwood City!

So we arrived at the dinner and there were probably about 50 people there. It was held in a private room in the back. The staff was really friendly and in character (accents and all) to greet us right from the get go. We were seated at our table and told that the others around us were our team - we would be putting our heads together to solve the mystery and competing against the other tables. Between courses, we'd be up and around interacting with different teams and characters to piece together the clues from the crime.

They even took our mug shots with fun props like boas and fedoras :)

They then informed 1-2 people per table that they were actually going to be part of the mystery and were given a binder with information on their character. Joe was chosen as the victim, which I didn't know at the time but I died of laughter when I saw him get up and full on act out the death in front of the entire audience! It was absolutely hilarious. Once he "died", he didn't have any more information so was just a detective like the rest of us.

The entire night was SO fun. I absolutely loved putting on my detective hat - and my table actually solved the mystery correctly! The Murder Mystery Co. does a lot of private events - I think it'd be really fun to do for a team outing so you know everyone you are doing it with! Overall, I had the best time and it was a fun and unique date night!
