I love smoothies.

San Francisco doesn't have enough places that make them which I find odd because smoothie shops were everywhere in Santa Barbara. If you know of any good ones, please do share! We have plenty of spots that sell juices and acaí bowls, which I love too, don't get me wrong. But, considering how healthy San Franciscans are, I'm let down by the amount of plain old smoothie places.

Smoothies are so healthy, filling, and tasty! Sometimes, smoothies are a pain to make though because they require too many ingredients, which 1) gets expensive real fast and 2) causes me to waste food since I don't end up using it all. I started making a green smoothie that I absolutely love about two years ago. It's a great breakfast or lunch replacement, or just for a snack throughout the day. My favorite thing about this one: you probably already have half of the ingredients... and it's ridiculously EASY to make!

INGREDIENTS:

Makes one serving.

1) Spinach (1 generous handful. I usually use 1/3 of a standard size spinach bag for one serving.)

2) 1 banana

3) 1 cup almond milk (I like vanilla, but plain works too!)

4) 5 oz of vanilla Greek yogurt (I prefer non-fat.)

5) 1 tbsp of creamy peanut butter

*Optional:

  • Add in 1 tbsp of chia seeds for tons of fiber, protein, calcium and more in very little calories. Read more about the health benefits of chia seeds here.

  • Add in 1 tbsp of turmeric as an anti-inflammatory that's great for your joints. Read more about tumeric's many health benefits here.
