acaí obsession in san francisco

Let's talk about acaí bowls... I'm obsessed. Ever since I moved near Polk Street, I've been completely addicted to acaí bowls at Basik Cafe on Polk and Pacific.

The acaí berry is extremely healthy for you too, with a lot of added health benefits! It contains antioxidants, fiber and heart-healthy fats. It's a very low-sugar fruit that contains anti-inflammatory benefits, cholestoral-lowering benefits, and anti-cancer benefits, due to its vitamin and mineral content. Here's a list of everything the acaí berry contains:

  1. Vitamin C

  2. Vitamin A

  3. B Vitamins: niacin, vitamin B6, riboflavin

  4. Vitamin K

  5. Fiber

  6. Omega fatty acids: omega-6 (linoleic acid) and omega-9 (oleic acid)

  7. Protein

  8. Copper

  9. Iron

  10. Zinc

  11. Magnesium

  12. Manganese

  13. Potassium

  14. Antioxidants: resveratrol, cyanidin-3-galactoside, ferulic acid, delphinidin, petunidin

  15. Polyphenols

  16. Flavonoids

I've also been making my own acaí bowls at home, as they can be pretty pricey to purchase. Here is the list of ingredients you'll need to do so:

-Frozen Acai Puree (try Sambazon Acai Berry Super Fruit Packs available at Whole Foods and come with 4 single serving packets)

-Granola (try Hemp Plus Granola available at Whole Foods)

-Fruit (my favorites to add are sliced bananas, rasberries and blueberries)

-Honey (drizzle a little bit of honey on the top and your bowl is complete!)

If you're looking to go out and grab a bowl for breakfast or lunch, I suggest:
